These pastoral women in Tanzania are herding their donkeys. I suspect they are Maasai because of where I saw them by Lake Manyara as well as by the blue fabric that Maasai women prefer (red tends to be a color more for the men). I suspect they are headed to market by the loads the donkeys are carrying and how lovely they are dressed.

Amazing photo! They have the ability to walk incredible distances to go to towns or markets. Can’t wait till I get back to Tanzania in a few months.

I’m enjoying the way the blue on the horizon echoes the blue in the women’s clothing. perhaps that’s one of the reasons they prefer that colour? thank you for the shot.

Is it that they’d have ‘market best’ where we’d day ‘Sunday best’ – nice to see a photo of Masaii that’s not warriors jumping up and down for paying tourists

What a great shot. We have almost no pictures of women in Tanzania, it’s usually the young boys that you see “out and about”
