April’s photo contest had the theme “Shadows”.
This picture “Sahara Shadows” is from Jonathan Reid. Jonathan was our contest winner.
Jonathan says:
I did a photo trip in February to Morocco with my wife and fellow photographer, Tina. We did a week long circular guided tour from Marrakesh to the Sahara and back again. Unfortunately, six of the seven days greeted us with torrential rain (there were reports of people drowning). Even our camel ride into the desert was met with wind and rain. The next morning, I woke up to photograph the morning light on the dune to find blue skies and warm sunlight.
The actual shot was taken from on top of my camel during the sunrise walk home. One of the local Berbers preferred walking to riding the camels and chose a route parallel to ours. I took a few photos but there was always something missing. We then changed the direction of our route, causing the shadows of our camels to point towards the nomad. I was able to take two shots before he disapeared over the dune.

The May contest is “Sense of Scale”.

I love this picture. When it popped up on my screen all I could see the man standing on top of that brilliantly colored sand and was so surprised when I scrolled down to see all the camel shadows. Such a great picture!
